Confessions of a First Time Bus User

"Taking the bus for the first time was a bummer. I am usually able to help others, but today I had no car to use. I was full of negative feelings as I called to ask to be picked up for lunch. I am still able to come and go at will with my car; riding the bus reminded me painfully that because of a possible loss of vision this could be a preview of my future.
Tom the bus driver picked me up at 11:00 and let me know what time I'd return home. The good part of this story is that I had a wonderful experience. I found how valuable taking the bus is. Instead of feeling powerless, I found how powerful and enterprising my ride had become. What happened between my home and the center was phenomenal! I made more friends, found where the bus goes around town, and most of all I learned not to be apprehensive about using the bus. As I age I'm learning I'm going to be OK. Here's my advice- take the bus before you need to . You keep some control by doing something a little uncomfortable while you can. You know, I don't ever want someone saying to me, "you need to do..." Instead, I want to know I can say I can control what I do, even if what I do is ask for help. I'm willing to ask for myself, because I can! " -
